On This Day - September 22nd - Abraham Lincoln Issues the Emancipation Proclamation

Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22nd, 1862 which granted freedom to over three million black slaves in the United State of America. The Emancipation Proclamation also shifted the focus of the Civil War to slavery. Lincoln intended the war be about restoring the Union and really focus that much on the issue of slavery when the War began in 1861. Further reading ...
