Mississippi's state flag, adopted in 1894, would become one of the most controversial flags our country has ever known. Why? Because this new flag included the Confederate Battle Flag, also called the Rebel Flag. More than 100 years later, in 2001, the citizens of Mississippi, voted overwhelmingly (65%) to keep their original Rebel Flag.
