Strobe lights are lights that produce regular flashes by use of halogen illumination. They are also referred to as stroboscopic lamps. The speed at which they flash is high enough to have an alarming effect on any people around. Some strobe lights have flash energy of as high as 150 joules and discharge times of a few milliseconds. They are therefore used in vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks as well as police cars to indicate the urgency of their business and the need for other motorists to give way. These lights have colors such as red, amber and blue. For these purposes, the strobe lights are used alongside sirens.
